Kelty's wide range of outdoor products needed a new home that reflected its commitment to quality and innovation. BKWLD was presented with the problem of creating a link between the hardcore outdoor enthusiasts and the casual weekend warriors - both important segments of Kelty's diverse user base. To complete this task, BKWLD infused the site with a "lifestyle flair" that spoke to the active families, to the rock climber with young kids who still considered himself to be an enthusiast, and also to the diehard outdoorsman. Coupled with full-motion video, clear and concise searches, and custom content management systems, the Kelty site becomes as dynamic as the customer base that drives it.

For the official travel and tourism site for the state of California, BKWLD was tasked with providing a user experience that not only matched the lively and vibrant California vibe, but was also full of rich and robust information. The solution was to develop a clean and simple user interface that was peppered with style, wonderful photos and intriguing travel itineraries and tips from locals. The interactive photo mosaics are especially worth noting since they give every single page of the site a variable and different experience on each visit. Additionally, via an elegant and powerful content management system developed by BKWLD, the CTTC had the ability to empower their team to create content to help populate the site chock full of goodies. Practically every photo and word of copy on the entire site was accessible via this robust back end, ensuring that the CTTC always had control of their site, and always had the flexibility to keep content fresh and fun.

This idea was executed through wildly successful viral games and applications that included loads of user generated content through photo submissions, rider soundtracks and video editing. Working closely with Microsoft and Wexley School for Girls, we helped create an interactive map and website to showcase the wonderful smiles people were sharing in honor of the charity Operation Smiles. In little over two weeks, the site already had garnered over a quarter million smiles viewed and continues to grow each day. Additionally, we worked with Firstborn and Digital Kitchen to create Flash photo kiosks at events in New York City and Los Angeles, that snapped people's smiles on the ground, and sent them to the website.

To help the California Department of Education and California Community Colleges spread the message of how vital and important Community College and career technical education is to the state, we created the "Who Do U Want 2B" campaign with local advertising heavyweights Runyon, Saltzman and Einhorn. We created the design direction for the entire campaign, as well as the underlying message of "No one ever told me I could make a living off this" that looked to empower students into realizing that they could do what they love, and get paid to do it (like we do everyday at Buk!). We also shot and produced the testimonial videos ourselves, in the beginning of what will be a huge amount of content made with real students, for students.

THE PURPOSE: Completely re-hauling a brand's website from scratch is never an easy undertaking, and in the case of 2K Sports, it was a labor of love. Not surprisingly, there's a good number of gamers at Buk, so we had a fun time rebranding and redesigning 2K's online presence. THE PLAN: From the dynamic feature set on the homepage, to some pretty intense CSS, Javascript and Papervision, the cool factor of these additions is only rivaled by the site's deep and easy to use back end. THE PURPOSE: Dragon is an eyewear and clothing brand with a tradition in action sports that is as relevant and deep as their iconic logo. We had the unique opportunity to help them rebrand and reposition themselves as a global player in the sunglasses and goggles game, still maintaining their deep surf/skate/snow roots, while also appealing to anyone with a flair for what is fresh, due to Dragon's hip and aggressive new styles. THE PLAN: With such a varied, wide and global audience, the website had to be able to give the American visitor as well as the Japanese (Australian, French, etc.) user an experience that felt tailored and specialized just for them. And of course, like with any retail website, also sell product! So for Dragon, we built the site's overall design aesthetic to be more 'template feeling', and created a powerful back end CMS (dubbed the "Dragon OS") that allows them to easily create product lines, design feature systems and develop vivid backgrounds for each global entity, that with just the click of a mouse, can change the entire tone and feeling of the site.

THE PURPOSE: We love a good 3rd party application, but nothing can beat something we build from scratch with love and tailor-made for a client. Such is the case with the Dragon OS that we developed for the eyewear and clothing company Dragon. Dragon needed a website that allowed them to add product, news, features and a whole host of other editable content, but also be able to specialize this content on a global scale. For instance, they needed to have an "Australian" version of the site, that would give Australian visitors athletes, news, products etc. specific to Australia. Similarly, this approach had to be on the Japanese, European, Latin American etc. versions of the site, while still giving the Dragon HQ based in North America, control over everyone. THE PLAN: Therefore, we created a system for them that allows Dragon HQ to create regional user accounts, empowering their team members to keep their site fresh and relevant. The OS is easy to use, intuitive, and also comes with a fully illustrated operations manual (i.e. anyone can use it!) Additionally, the OS gives Dragon the power to change virtually everything on their site from the backgrounds on every page, to the product information, to the athlete bios and so on.

THE PURPOSE: Creating fun and addicting flash games is one of BKWLD's guilty pleasures. And when the game has a great sweepstakes to back it up, it's always a surefire success. So to continue the theme of our "Who Do You Want to Be" campaign for the California Community College Association, BKWLD developed a simple platform jumping game called Pathfinders. THE PLAN: The object of the game is to climb the 'mountain of life' while collecting icons for points and answering trivia questions for more chances at winning the great prizes. We also developed an intuitive 'team' creation process, urging players to invite their friends to play, to create more opportunities for prizes and to spread the fun. THE OUTCOME: During its first week alone, the game was played over 12,000 times and continues to grow.

THE PURPOSE: So Microsoft has all these great products that interact with each other, but no one seems to know to what depths they do. Creative boutique, Wexley School for Girls, came to us to help create an interactive experience that would showcase these super features. But simply explaining wouldn't be enough. We needed to capture the user in a way that would cause them to delve deeper... THE PLAN: We developed a surreal underwater experience that bring the products to life through a hilarious script and VO, ridiculous illustrations, a tasty use of 3D and After Effects, all within a Flash microsite. THE OUTCOME: An immersive and engaging piece of interactive that meets business objectives while entertaining all the while. In addition to meeting our client's needs, we also go to appease our own by embarking on an uber collaborative adventure between the agency, and many members of our own team. Those rides are the best.

THE PURPOSE: Emerging outdoor company, Red Ledge, came to BKWLD to create a user-friendly website that would reinvent their brand and showcase their quality and affordable clothing. THE PLAN: We decided to differentiate Red Ledge by poking fun at the ridiculous "extreme" nature of some of their competitors messages. We developed a series of flash panel animations that take the user through a quest of reality to non-reality, relaying the message that “Itʼs just a F&%$ing jacket”. Most likely you will not be wearing it to the Alaskan Ididorod but in everyday life instead. THE OUTCOME: An enticing and witty site that shows the world that outdoor clothing can be worn for everyday life and not just to battle the African wilderness.
