Photos from Sacramento summit
The SEA office flew down to Sacramento before the holidays to meet in person as a group, plan the next year, and have fun together over 4 days. My shoulder was (and is) out of commission (bike accident) so I missed this years ski trip to Tahoe; it sounded like everyone got along fine without me though. Going up to Tahoe is sort of a BKWLD tradition at this point, I think this was the 4th or 5th time. Of all the photos I took, these came out the least blurry, which is pretty sad. If someone with more skills and a better camera has some shots, please replace mine in this post!
Happy New Year everyone, looking forward to an amazing 2010!

Wow, you have one lone actual female on staff? How 20th century of you. And she’s the receptionist, of course. The fact that you appear not to be able to hire ANY technically proficient females on the entire west coast is not a good selling point for your organization.
It isn’t selective on our part, it’s just the nature of who is in this business. Check out the results of the last A List Apart survey (2008): http://aneventapart.com/alasurvey2008/#gen. We’d love to see those statistics change.
Hm, last time our design group hired, we found more than one extremely well qualified woman web designer candidate, and hired her. Hispanic, no less. 16% isn’t a lot of women in the industry, I’ll grant you that, but you’d be matching those A List Apart statistics for gender if you had oh, maybe 2 technical women on your staff. Part of it is embracing diversity as a company-wide goal, eh? Perhaps you could host a few female interns to begin to help balance things out.
